Collaborating Institution in Research Projects

  • FP6 IST NoE E1+ (E-Photon/One+), EU 6th Framework Program (FP6) for Research and Technological Development – Information Society Technologies (IST) Work Programme. Network of Excellence (NoE). Project code: FP6-001933. Project Duration: 01/03/2006 – 28/2/2008. Collaborating Institution.
  • The French ACTRICE project (Approche Combinée de Technologies Réseaux Inter-domaine sous Contraintes Economiques), funded by the Agence Nationale por la Recherche (ANR) France, with label 2005 du Réseau National de Recherche en Télécommunications (RNRT), and led by Alcatel-Lucent France, aims at developing new models and solutions in order to meet the new requirements for the inter-connection of network operators in the inter-domain context. With work Package 4, members of the project have participated in the experimentation and validation of new networking architectures on the CTTC ADRENALINE GMPLS testbed. The studied protocol extensions and algorithms are designed in order to automate inter-domain MPLS tunnel provisioning, very popular for inter-provider VPN offers (with QoS warantees), or for VoIP interconnection between providers. The solution is based on the PCE architecture together with specific MPLS-TE inter-domain extensions, and allows providers to cooperate in the context of an alliance of ISPs in order to offer such interdomain services. Aruna Prem Bianzino (Ms.C. Politecnico di Torino) and Nabil Djarallah (Alcatel-Lucent France), visted the CTTC from May to August 2008. They both worked with the Optical Networking Area, in the context of the project, extending the ADRENALINE Testbed ® implementing and validating theoretical control plane extensions for inter-domain provisioning in a Joint collaboration between CTTC, Institut Telecom Paristech, Alcatel-Lucent France and France Telecom.

 

Cooperation Agreements

National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT)

  • On May 21st 2008, The CTTC has signed a cooperation agreement with the NICT of Japan to develop scientific research projects in the optical networking field. By means of this agreement the previously established relations among the two institutions are consolidated. The first point of contact took place in 2006, with the postdoctoral stay of the researcher Dr. Carolina Pinart at NICT. Successively, in January 2008, the 2-year International Complementary Action GAUDI Design and study of GMPLS algorithms and monitoring techniques for intelligent wavelength-routed Networksstarted, led by Dr. Raül Muñoz. In the framework of this action, during April 2008, Dr. Hiroaki Harai, responsible for the Optical Grid Infrastructure Project, carried out a stay at CTTC and Dr. Ramon Casellas, researcher of the CTTC, is currently visiting NICT. The Optical Grid Infrastructure project is part of the Network Architecture Group of NICT, formerly led by Dr. Masaki Hirabaru and currently led by Dr. Hiroaki Harai (since September 2008).
